Hila and I are grateful to the Israel Aids Task Force for the certificate of appreciation they gave us
Hila and I are grateful to the Israel Aids Task Force for the certificate of appreciation they gave us last night.
As I said to the hundreds of guests at the event, it all began with the help of my best friend Leah Rabin, the wife of the prime minister and defense minister who was murdered, Yitzhak Rabin. She was the first person in the State of Israel to sponsor the first event at the Opera House in Israel to fight AIDS. Her best friend, Prof. Zvi Bentwich, harnessed her to the struggle. And from that moment on, she enlisted with all her might.
Then it was Meni Peer, who wanted to meet us and to hold an art auction that all its income will be dedicated to fighting AIDS. We recommended Meni to approach our friends in Savyon, Kfar Shmaryahu and Zahala to open their houses for an exhibition. In the meeting attended about 12 members of the Aids Task Force committee. A few days later we received a small potted plant as a thank you gift. Following the reception of the small potted plant, we called to hear how the event was progressing. And then we realized that all the people have refused the Israel Aids Task Force because they were afraid of AIDS. Hila, my wife, told me that the exhibition would be held in our residence. And so it went on for four more years. Afterward, the exhibition moved to Bank Hapoalim and the rest was history. But, if it were not for Leah Rabin who exposed me to this subject, and also to Alut - The Israeli Society for Autistic Children and to Tel Hashomer Hospital. In both of these places she made history. Hila and I weren't be receiving this certificate, because we were not aware of the fight against the Aids disease.
